Domain registrar and Web hosting provider GoDaddy announced on Wednesday that it has experienced considerable growth in the selling of SSL Certificates.

According to Web analytics and research firm Netcraft, GoDaddy grew more than any other SSL hosting provider during June, adding twice the number of hosted SSL-enabled Web sites over its nearest competitor. Go Daddy is a leading issuer of SSL Certificates, including its new 6-in-1 SSL Certificate.

“The convenience of our SSL certificate installation system, which automatically attaches a certificate to a hosting account, gives Web site managers a hassle-free start-up process and their Web site’s visitors the confidence of knowing their transactions are encrypted and secure,” says Bob Parsons, CEO and founder of the Go Daddy Group.

GoDaddy provides services that help individuals and businesses to establish, maintain and evolve online presences, including domain name registration, Web site hosting services and on-demand services.

Domain name registrar Web.com announced this week it filed a patent infringement lawsuit Monday against domain registrar and Web hosting provider GoDaddy.

In the lawsuit, Web.com alleges that GoDaddy’s Deluxe Hosting Plan infringes on its patent called “Synchronized Server Parameter Database,” which enables customers to have remote access to a control panel that is part of the Web hosting service.

Atlanta, Georgia-based Web.com filed the lawsuit against Scottsdale, Arizona-based GoDaddy in the U.S. District Court in Atlanta.

Web.com, formerly Interland, provides solutions for Web sites and web services including do-it-yourself and professional Web site design, Web hosting, e-commerce, Web marketing and email.

Open source evangelist Bruce Perens is rousing the support of the open source community, in an effort to regain an edge in its PR war over domain parking with Microsoft.

Domain name registrar GoDaddy recently switched its domain parking host software from Apache to Microsoft. Since GoDaddy has an estimated 4.5 million parked domains, this gave Microsoft a 5 percent market share gain in last month’s Netcraft Web server survey.

“I’ve created an Open Source parking site, OpenSourceParking.com,” writes Perens. “It will always use Open Source / Free Software for all of its operations. Currently, it identifies its server as lighttpd. I will be able to set a parking server up that identifies as Apache, as well. But the important thing is getting those domains off of IIS and Microsoft Windows.”

Perens is hoping that enough people park their domains at opensourceparking.com to “restore the market share reported for Open Source” in forthcoming Netcraft reports.

Web hosting and domain name provider GoDaddy announced on Friday that GoDaddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons has launched a new radio show entitled “Life Online with Bob Parsons.”

The program features discussions on Internet, business and entrepreneurial topics. It is broadcast live every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. EST via satellite on Sirius and XM and on the Internet, and is available as a podcast.

The premiere broadcast began this week, with Bob Parsons making a $10,000 donation to Perverted-Justice – one of the guests on the show. Perverted-Justice uses volunteers posing as underage children to help police catch potential sexual predators.

“The volunteers at Perverted Justice do great work to keep the Internet safe for children,” say Parsons. “From speaking with them live on my show, it was clear to me their mission was worth supporting. I am pleased to be able to help their cause.”

Microsoft announced on Tuesday that Web hosting and domain name provider GoDaddy is transitioning its approximately 4.5 million domains from a Linux platform to the Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting.

“Our business is based on providing the best possible service at the lowest possible price. This strategy requires us to maximize all of our resources, particularly our technology assets,” says Warren Adelman, GoDaddy president and COO. “It was clear from all of the testing we’ve conducted that Microsoft provides an efficient and scalable operating platform, while also providing the performance needed to handle our extraordinary growth.”

Microsoft says its Solution for Windows-based Hosting provides GoDaddy with a technology platform that is security-enhanced, highly scalable and easy to manage. Additionally, the growing number of independent software vendors creating applications based on the Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting enables GoDaddy to introduce new services to its customers easily and cost-effectively.

Go Daddy has also recently developed and deployed its Quick Blog tool, enabling the aggregation of bloggers in one large Windows-based application while assigning each blogger a unique domain.
