Web hosting provider Host Department announced on Monday it has launched Domain for Life, a service that will enable customers to own their domain names for life.
Host Department says the lifelong domain registration comes with any Host Department account, on the condition that the user maintains a host department hosting account. The company’s announcement did not make it altogether clear whether the service is completely unlike the significant number of hosting packages that include the registration of a domain name.
“Domain names are the gateway to which visitors access your Web site’s contents, but catchy and easy to remember domain names are not easy to get hold off,” says Peter Vontainne, Host Department’s business development manager. “Once customers have found their chosen domain name, they will want to make sure it stays theirs. What we are offering here is a chance for them to own a piece of the Internet for life.”
Established in 1997, Host Department is based in Wilmington, Delaware with data centers located in Fremont and Santa Clara, California. Currently serving over 550,000 customers, Host Department emphasizes service to individuals, small to medium sized businesses and large corporations.
