Domain name registrar Register.com announced on Monday it has introduced its r.Protect service, designed to prevent users from revealing their private information online. The new service ensuring customers that their personal information does not become available on the WHOIS database.

Telemarketers and spammers have been known to search the WHOIS database for the publicly available contact information of domain registrants.

The new r.Protect solution enables users to appear as anonymous registrants on the WHOIS database. The registrant’s WHOIS database record also includes an r.Protect physical address to which mail can be sent, a phone number, and a generic, unique and revolving email address that filters spam emails. r.Protect then forwards all certified and overnight mail, but removes any general junk mail solicitations.

“With all of the uncertainties of operating in an online environment including phishing, spamming and malware, we want to ensure our customers have access to the highest levels of security and privacy,” says Monica Hodges, GM of retail at Register.com. “This is another instance in which our premier customer service helps customers through every step of their online experience.”
