Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Go Daddy announced on Wednesday that it has handled more than one third of .mobi domain registrations so far. Go Daddy says it also registered 68 percent of last week’s .mobi domain name registrations.
The outlook for the mobile data services industry is at an estimated $112 billion by 2008, according to IDC research. And research outlined in a .mobi fact sheet says a recent survey shows 90 percent of consumers would use mobile Internet services if pages would load faster and they wouldn’t incur high costs from mobile carriers.
The introduction of .mobi provides a new avenue for content delivery, social networking and e-commerce. Go Daddy says it is helping customers enter the .mobi game through a combination of products and services like WebSite Tonight and MobileMail, which are designed to tap the potential of the mobile Web.
“We’re pleased with the success of dot-mobi,” says Bob Parsons, founder and CEO of Go Daddy. “With millions of wireless phones worldwide, the mobile Web is a huge market. We knew that long ago and put the infrastructure in place to help our customers wanting to join the dot-mobi revolution. They can count on Go Daddy’s low prices and round-the-clock customer support to get there.”
