Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Go Daddy announced over the weekend that its “Go Daddy Girl” Danica Patrick became the first woman in history to win an IndyCar Series race.

According to the press release, Patrick took the checkered flag at the Japan 300 in Motegi, near Tokyo, and finished more than five seconds ahead of Helio Castroveves after taking the lead with three laps to go.

“It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to win. It’s unbelievable,” writes Patrick in her blog. “I have worked so hard, for so long, to reach this point. I’m sure it’s going to take a little while for it to sink in.”

Since joining the Go Daddy team as a company spokesperson in 2006, Patrick has gone to star in Go Daddy’s notorious Super Bowl ads along with fellow “Go Daddy Girls” WWE diva Candice Michelle and Olympic swimming champion Amanda Beard. Patrick was featured in Go Daddy’s most recent 2008 Super Bowl ad “Spot On” as well as one entitled “Exposure,” which ended up being rejected by Fox television network but found its way to audiences online on Go Daddy’s website.

“For us, there was never a question of if Danica could win – we’ve believed in her from day one,” says Bob Parsons, founder and CEO of Go Daddy. “She thrives on competition, speed and power. She’s a true competitor. Go Daddy recognizes Danica as an innovator who is now a part of sports history. We are so happy for her, her team and her whole family.”

This is Patrick’s fourth IndyCar season and her big win came in her 50th IndyCar event. Last year, she finished the season seventh overall and was runner-up in the Detroit race. Go Daddy says she made history in 2005 when she scored the best finish by a woman at the Indy 500 and was voted the league’s Rookie of the Year.
