Data networks provider American Fiber Systems announced on Wednesday it has completed a metropolitan fiber network solution in the Kansas City metropolitan area for Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet.

The metropolitan fiber network solution connects 1&1’s newest data center, located in Lenexa, Kansas, with several Internet bandwidth providers, carrier hotels and network hubs in Kansas City, Missouri.

AFS built a 4-node, point-to-point, metro fiber circuit, which included three major telecommunications points of presence already on the company’s network in the Kansas City metro area, says the company.

“We selected AFS to connect our brand new Lenexa data center with low latency to leading ISPs through state-of-the-art connectivity,” says Andreas Gauger, chairman of 1&1 Internet. “The AFS line will be an important element for our service level promise of 99.99 percent availability and is essential in bolstering our redundancy and achieving market-leading connectivity.”
